International Trophy For Saxenburg Private Collection Cabernet
A Grand Slam! Saxenburg Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 takes a Gold Medal, a Best in Class and the Warren Winiarski Trophy for Cabernet Sauvignon in London at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). The results announced in July awarded Saxenburg the Warren Winiarski Trophy for the best Cabernet Sauvignon from the entire competition.
There were over 6000 wines present this year from different countries. The IWSC recognised for its rigorous judging is not for the faint hearted. Wines were judged in two stages. This included a professional blind tasting (there are no amateur or consumer panels) and a detailed chemical and microbiological analysis. The Competition is unique in that all medal winners are subject to a technical analysis before results are released.
«So, la créme de la créme», we asked winemaker Nico van der Merwe?
«Most definitely! This is arguably the highest accolade in the world for Cabernet Sauvignon. I don't think it really gets any better than this», enthused Nico.
Saxenburg Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 first took a Gold Medal in the Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, Stellenbosch category. It went on to wine Best in Class and ultimately took the Winiarski Trophy.
Nico van der Merwe will visit London on 31st October to attend the IWSC Banquet which will be held at Old Billingsgate where 750 esteemed guests will enjoy a five course dinner with award-winning wines and spirits. Saxenburg will be awarded the Warren Winiarski Trophy.
Saxenburg Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 is presented in the new silk-screen printed French bottles incorporating the new guinea fowl logo. The fruit for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 was selected from three different vineyards planted with three different clones within the 15.5 hectares grown at Saxenburg, Stellenbosch. The wine was matured in 300 litre French oak barrels of which 40% of the barrels were new. This Cabernet opens with a powerful, intense aroma of blackcurrant and cassis fruit.
The wine is ready for drinking however we suggest for maximum enjoyment, serve the wine at room temperature (between 16-18 degrees c) and decant the wine just before serving. The wine can be cellared for a further 8/9 years.
Further information about the wine can be found under the OUR WINES menu at www.saxenburg.com. For information on stockists/importers please contact us by email at info@saxenburg.com.
